Q. Isn’t this partnership just a tactic to increase more sales to kids?

A. We have very stringent guidelines around marketing to children and ensure that we do not advertise to anyone under the age of six . Our Mini Fish Fingers are also Non-High Fat, Salt or Sugar (non-HFSS), and so are considered a healthy choice for children.

Q. Why is Birds Eye promoting a toy that could be considered a choking hazard to children?

A. Promotion includes a toy that consists of a 7.5cm Special Edition Playmobil Captain and is not suitable for children under 36 months.

Q. Aren’t fish fingers ultra-processed/ unhealthy? Why are you providing toy incentives encouraging kids to eat your unhealthy products?

A. Fish is one of the healthiest foods you can eat and we turn fish into tasty dishes for all the family to enjoy. Our Mini Fish Fingers are made from100% fish fillets and coated in a crispy breadcrumb.

According to UK Government’s Nutrient Profiling Model, our Mini Fish Fingers are classified as non-HFSS (non-High Fat, Salt or Sugar), this means they are objectively healthy.

We additionally have a strict Responsible Marketing policy, which states that we may not promote any HFSS / unhealthy products towards children under the age of 13, and that we will not advertise any products to infants under the age of four.

We are comfortable promoting the consumption of Mini Fish Fingers, in line with our overall ambition to empower consumers to consume their recommended weekly fish intake. Fish is a uniquely nutritious food, important for all life stages.

We recommend our Mini Fish Fingers to be consumed as part of a balanced healthy diet. They are a fantastic source of vitamin B12 and phosphorus. They are also rich in protein, which supports children’s normal bone growth and development. Our Mini Fish Fingers are a delicious and easy way to create healthy meals for your family.

Q. What are you commitments to reducing plastic? (BEIF)

A. We have a Code of Practice for Responsible Packaging Design in place that all of our packaging must adhere to. This covers appropriate material use to ensure we design our packaging to use as little material as possible.

Q. Why are you using plastic in a competition? Isn’t that bad for the environment?

A. This Playmobil prize is a product with a very long service life. Because Playmobil is a system toy, items are often given away as gifts and are kept for generations. We see this as an important sustainability principle. In addition, Playmobil make offers for the return of products to enable them to be recycled and reused. For example, via stores or together with selected retail partners.

Q. Is Birds Eye packaging recyclable?

A. Yes, all of our fish packaging is recyclable.

Q. How much plastic is in Birds Eye packaging?

A. A great majority of our Packaging is composed of recyclable Carton boxes – >95% from Paper material and a small percentage of plastic material required for Food contact safety.

Birds Eye also uses recyclable Flexibles or Bags in some instances– these would be composed of more than 95% mono-material plastic.

Q. Is Playmobil plastic safe?

A. PLAYMOBIL does not use any harmful plasticizers (phthalates) and of course PLAYMOBIL products comply with the applicable international safety standards (EN71, ASTM, CCPSA, UKCA) for toys.

Only high-quality materials are used that meet the high requirements in terms of quality, stability, safety, coloring, functionality and hygiene. These materials are neutral, do not release any harmful substances and are therefore sweat- and saliva-proof. Most of the plastics used for PLAYMOBIL are also approved for contact with food.
